Talmud
We will cover 4-5 pages of Talmud with the commentaries of Rashi and Tosafot. Each day you will study a new piece of text, learning it in several stages starting with a basic understanding of the text followed by an in-depth analysis, and, finally a careful review of the material. This process is spread over the course of the day. Our system emphasizes learning the skills that will allow you to study any piece of Talmud properly.
Chumash (Torah)
We will study one Torah portion in Genesis with the commentary of Rashi and Ramban. (Nachmanides) As in Talmud, we will emphasize how to study the text, along with Rashi's and Ramban's commentaries.
Halacha (Jewish Law)
We will take various laws that are relevant to daily life – such as wearing tzitzit, the obligation to study Torah, giving charity, honoring one's parents, etc.- and work through the development of these laws beginning with their source in the Talmud through their codification in the Shulchan Aruch and the Mishnah Berurah.
Sefer Hamitzvot Hakatzar
We will study this abbreviated book of all the Mitzvot which are relevant in today’s day and age along with a synopsis of the deeper philosophical meaning of each Mitzvah.
Hashkafa (Jewish Ethics)
This class will be taught by various prominent lecturers and will cover several topics including the Torah's ideal of ethical behavior, how to incorporate these concepts into your life, how to infuse your daily life with spirituality, and how to meet the challenges of living in a non-Jewish and mostly secular world.
Mussar (Self-Refinement)
Lifetime tools on how to deal with anger, jealousy, indulgence, and the human temptation for arrogance through analysis of the classic writings of the giants of Jewish thought such as Maimonides, Nachmanides, and Rabbi Moshe Chaim Luzzato.
Hebrew (Ulpan)
An optional ulpan to teach and improve your Hebrew language skills taught by an experienced ulpan instructor.
